Independent structure from an italian region Salento born in May 2020. A meeting point of the cultural currents of the Mediterranean area and beyond, born from the synergy aimed at promoting the audio visual arts in its many forms in a Tradinnovazione network based in Salento in Italy.
MASCARIMIRI - is a bright star on the Pizzica Pizzica sky, able to shine not only in the Italian context but also into the international one. This thanks to the unique and original sound, the result of more than 20 years of "Tradinnovazione" - the idea of electro world music par excellence created by Claudio "Cavallo" Giagnotti, the musician and producer with Roma Salentino origins, leader and founder of the band since 1998. The MASCARIMIRI project, born in a Salento not yet touristic, has always been at the forefront of sound experimentation - is the synonym of union between tradition and innovation with a powerful and engaging sound, enriched by the sounds of the whole Mediterranean area and gypsy vibe. Today the sound of MASCARIMIRI is mature, always innovative, with a deep knowledge of its roots and an unmistakable international identity. With ten studio albums and first-rate concert activity, Mascarimiri is rewriting the tradition since over 20 years and remains the most innovative band among Pizzica Pizzica Salentina groups.
CLAUDIO CAVALLO IN ETNO WORLD SOUND SYSTEM
A DJ / LIVE set by Claudio “Cavallo“ Giagnotti from the Mascarimirì band, where the Salento music changes its path. From music for the traditional parties, it moves through the dj set to much more innovative clubs and electro world dance floors, using the dance hall e il Sound System as a language for dancing. And so the symbolic circle created by the tradition of the Tamburreddhu Salentino ronda (Salento frame drum circle) connects in a modern ritual with the circle of vinyl and CD.
TAMBURREDDHU A UCE
Two voices (UCE) and two Salento drums (TAMBURREDDHU): this is how we describe Salento's musical world, in which the rhythm of Pizzica Pizzica meets the canto alla stisa (a choral traditional way of singing), love, folk and “indignation” songs. Everything is conceived by two artists, who have been loving so much ethnic music, since the middle of Nineties, that they decided to analyze and spread it all over the world.
An international choir ready to re-invent Salento's polytechnic repertoire that has been handed down by the pioneer of world ethnomusicology, Alan Lomax.
The human voice is used not only as a vocal melody, but also as if it were a rhythm, a harmonic support, and at certain points as a "sequencer" of electronic music where, in turn, the soloists emerge, ready to meet the challenges that the project proposes without thinking about stereotypes and musical cages.
The project created by Claudio "Cavallo" Giagnotti, directed by Anna Cinzia Villani.
FESTIVAL DELLA TRADINNOVAZIONE
“BALLATI!” The Tradinnovation festival born in 2001 from the idea of Claudio "Cavallo" Giagnotti, dedicated to the traditional music of Salento, and beyond, and its innovations and experiments. The festival hosted artists such as Uccio Aloisi, Pino Zimba, Alla Bua, Carlo “Canaglia” De Pascali, Emanuele Licci, Aramirè, Tambourine players from Torrepaduli, Aria Corte, Enza Pagliara, Anna Cinzia Villani, Ariafrisca and many others on its stage. "Masters" of Salento music, spokesmen in the world of the musical heritage of this land. The matrix of Tradinnovation, which tell the spirit that animates the event, devoted to the meeting of Salento and Puglia, of their tradition and culture with languages, styles, traditions and cultures of the other shores of the Mediterranean, in a path projected towards the multiculturalism and the removal of barriers between different realities. An approach that testifies to the encounter, dialogue, coexistence between different civilizations, respecting the mutual systems of values and beliefs.
TAM TAM TAMBURREDDHU FESTIVAL
A festival designed to enhance the main instrument of the Salento tradition, "Lu Tamburreddhu". It always starts from how it is considered today: perhaps more a souvenir than a musical instrument. We do this reflection through moments of celebration and debate. The presence of national and international artists involved in the festival helps us to start a confrontation between "Lu Tamburreddhu" and other Mediterranean percussions. In any place, thanks to the presence of LOCAL instruments, traditional music can be played and transmitted. Salento has changed: from the land of emigrants it has become a tourist land, and this change is making us forget some customs and habits, which peasant life has transmitted to us, and which should be for us the basis for creating historical continuity. It is important to enhance "Lu Tamburreddhu" as an autochthonous instrument, with its characteristics (musical techniques rooted in local traditions, and construction techniques with knowledge of materials and dimensions), fundamental for playing and dancing the Pizzica Pizzica. We need this to know the repertoire of the Salento tradition, and to be able to export it all over the world with greater awareness.
GITANISTAN - we open the borders. A festival that inherits the Gitanistan project, work started in 2009 by Claudio "Cavallo" Giagnotti and Association Dilinò. The research resulted in a documentary film, a photographic exhibition and a moment of celebration organized for April 8th, the international day of The Romani Gypsies, Sinti and Travellers. The festival, in addition to hosting groups of Roma Gypsies culture like Mascarimiri, 'O Rom, Vero Alimovic, Alegria Gitana, Beirut World Beat, Claudio Cavallo, aims above all at a reflection and an exchange of views between cultures where being together to celebrate leads to discussion and interaction of the Rom-Salentina community.
To point out is the collaboration for the organization of the festival with the University of Salento, the
Association 21 luglio, Ass. Alteramente and Masseria Ospitale.
A unique place and magic, the scent of a magical olive grove.
The Follaro Garden, the unique club with a Mediterranean flavor in Salento (Italy), hosts the Arrrabiata party. A mix of live music, DJ sets and finally a mega "Arrabbiata pasta" on the farmyard is the setting for one of the famous Salento summer events.
Balkaniko is a state of mind.
Is an itinerant party with a Balkan-Andalusian rhythm where the music meets places to party (clubs, olive groves, discos, threshing floors).
A Mediterranean festival of sounds, a mix of smells, flavors and philosophy od dancing party.
